🧑‍💻 Open Computer Agents can doom scroll too

Hugging Face (who develops open source tools for AI) has launched the Open Computer Agent, a free, cloud-based AI tool designed to interact with a virtual computer environment. Just like a person! Accessible through a web browser, this agent can perform tasks on a Linux virtual machine preloaded with applications such as Firefox.

So what’s the catch? Well, it’s still in early days—sometimes it lags. Sometimes it doesn’t quiteeee hit the mark. But it’s open source so you can fork it or fine tune it as you like. Your AI web-browsing intern is ready.

Fun Fact: Hugging Face’s original product in 2016 was literally a “teenager chatbot” named after the emoji 🤗. It was supposed to be a fun, sassy friend for Gen Z… until they pivoted hard into serious AI infrastructure.

🌍 OpenAI's Stargate goes global

Stargate is OpenAI’s ultra-ambitious plan to build a $500 billion hyperscale data center network to power future AI models. After breaking ground on their first Stargate site in Abilene, Texas (because why not start in a place where your only neighbors are cows), OpenAI is now shopping the concept around Europe.

The mission? To counterbalance the rise of authoritarian AI. According to OpenAI, Stargate isn’t just about bigger models and faster inference—it’s about “values infrastructure.”

Fun Fact: The planned Stargate buildout in Texas alone is expected to consume 5 gigawatts of power—that’s like half of NYC’s peak summer electricity usage.

🚀 Figma now turns pixels into code

Why design when you can… just AI generate the design? When you can’t beat them, join them. That’s what Figma is doing, a leading provider of digital product design tools. Most of these tools are still in closed beta.

1. Figma Sites: A website builder integrated with Figma Design, allowing creators to turn their projects into live, functional sites.

2. Figma Make: An AI coding tool powered by Anthropic's Claude 3.7 model, enabling users to build working prototypes and apps based on descriptions or existing designs.

3. Figma Buzz: A marketing-focused design app that facilitates the creation of brand content, similar to Canva.

4. Figma Draw: A vector design app akin to Adobe Illustrator, allowing creatives to make custom visuals without leaving the Figma platform.

Fun Fact: Adobe tried to acquire Figma for $20 billion, but failed.
