Happy Easter! Welcome to Easter edition Apr 21 Issue #3
⚡ DeepSeek V3-0324: High Performance at a Fraction of the Cost
On April 19, 2025, Lambda announced the availability of DeepSeek V3-0324 on its inference API. This 685B parameter Mixture-of-Experts model boasts impressive benchmarks, including 94% on MATH-500 and 81.2% on MMLU Pro, outperforming many closed-source counterparts.
But the real kicker? The pricing. At just $0.88 per 164K output, DeepSeek V3-0324 undercuts competitors like GPT-4 and Claude, which often charge several times more.
Fun Fact: DeepSeek V3-0324 was trained on 14.8 trillion tokens using an auxiliary-loss-free load balancing strategy and multi-token prediction, all while keeping costs impressively low.

🪄 Microsoft Copilot Gets a Makeover at 50
Remember Clippy? Whereas Ash’s Pikachu only learned new moves, Clippy erased, evolved, transformed… a whole bunch of times.
For its big 5-0, Microsoft gave Copilot a facelift. Copilot is an assistant available in the Copilot app, Microsoft 365 apps and the Edge browser. The new version sees what you’re doing, remembers your preferences, and can take actions like booking a table or ordering groceries.
Fun Fact: The new Copilot can shop for you. Hope it doesn’t have a thing for $900 ergonomic chairs.

🛡️ OpenAI Tightens Its Safety Straps
OpenAI just released a major update to its "Preparedness Framework" — the checklist it uses to decide whether an AI model might go full Skynet. It now evaluates whether models can self-replicate, evade safeguards, and resist shutdowns. Spoiler: these are not traits you want in a houseguest, let alone an LLM.
🎯 Fun Fact: They literally removed "persuasion" from the risk factors. Your next chatbot might sell you crypto.

🤖 Mechanize: The Startup Aiming to Automate All Human Jobs
On April 19, 2025, AI researcher Tamay Besiroglu announced the launch of Mechanize, a startup with the ambitious goal of fully automating the economy. The company plans to develop AI agents capable of performing tasks traditionally done by humans, focusing initially on white-collar jobs.
AI Twitter on fire: Critics questioned the ethics, especially since Besiroglu co-founded Epoch, a supposedly neutral research group. He was already under scrutiny for failing to disclose that OpenAI had funded its FrontierMath benchmark, which was in term used to evaluate o3’s mathematical capabilities.
🎯 Fun Fact: He dropped the "replace all humans" press release on his birthday.
